but not unchanged

i made it out finally.

obligatory apologies for the silence—too many things happened all at once. mostly it was work blowing up on me (i think i've been through six waves of layoffs by now) and sending me into a multi-month burnout. i've been looking for a way out of the advertising hellhole i had unknowingly signed myself up for since last january, but as we all know, looking for work is fucking painful right now.

my grandmother suffered a severe stroke a few weeks ago that left her unable to speak or move on the right side. she was recently discharged from the hospital and is now slowly recovering. i'll spare the rest of the details given that the way my family responded to the emergency was rather dysfunctional.

i finally produced and uploaded my first video on youtube in years. it's just me talking about my gripes with short-form content, but the act of making a video that's specifically for me and not some other audience or client has been a major goal of mine for a while, and i'm happy to have done it.

my girlfriend and i celebrated five years together earlier this month. we recently started doing this "movie exchange" where we agree to watch each other's guilty pleasure films. for me, i've been showing her the mission impossible series and the edgar wright cornetto trilogy. for her, it's been marvel. i'm still trying to place my thoughts on this arrangement.

i've been spending a lot of time messing with various forms of tech. my departure from most social media is still going strong, and i've been settling in quite nicely with zorin os (a very beginner friendly linux distro) for about six months now. it's definitely clunky in some areas (mainly with gaming), but the drawbacks have been tolerable and worth the migration from windows.

my friend gifted me a modded ipod 4th gen mono as a late birthday present, and i've been enjoying myself messing around with the features as well as the cool softwares it supports like rockbox. i even made a soulseek account to collect and categorize my music.

android gaming emulation has also come a long way, and i picked up a used konkr pocket fit to test its capabilities. it runs indie games and switch games beautifully, including tomodachi life, which i played for roughly a month before abandoning my island when my mii and my girlfriend's mii refused to get married despite having the "wants to marry" status for 19 days straight.

as i continue to regain my creative energy, it seems i will probably be investing a bit more time into making videos as i want to experiment with more forms of digital self expression.

for the first time in a while, i feel optimistic about my creative life.
